Holy Cow! There is certainly no shortage of musical resources out there on the web. Much as you can find just about any song to listen to on Youtube, you can also find someone to teach you how to play it. Almost every band out there has a fan who has transcribed their songs and made the tabs available to the public. You can easily see how the growth of cover bands has occurred in recent years.
With so much information to sort through how do you find what suits your needs? I started on Twitter. I am a huge fan of the band Phish so I hit their hashtag to ask other fans what songs they think would be easy to learn for a beginner. I got a couple quick replies and I was on my way. I was able to easily track down the tabs for them at a site called Emil's Tabs. The songs Sand and Bouncin around the Room both have fairly straightforward repetitive bass lines. The repetition, in particular, provides the opportunity to just let the song play and be able to come in along side in order to practice.
I feel like I'm getting a pretty good start here. Next I want to look for one or two Bob Marley songs. I love reggae and the music is so bass driven that it seems like a good next stop.
