Trung Le has his eye on the ways that education is being transformed through the recognition that students can benefit greatly from collaboration and inquiry. He is designing whole schools that break down the traditional barriers of the solitary classroom and create spaces where educators can guide students through interactive and curiosity-driven learning experiences. We continue to hear and read that employers are looking for young workers who can ask good questions, solve problems collaboratively and think critically. But most of the educational system is not creating these types of young adults. We have created a system that keeps subject matter compartmentalized and separated, while of course we know that the real world is very complex with all parts interacting and feeding off each other.
Le presents an interesting model for learning that attempts to bridge that gap:
(Empowerment x Self Organized x Emergence) Powered by: Technology = Transformation
So empower students to explore and change their world; let them self organize around a common theme or goal; use new and emerging ideas and models to solve problems. Power this all with the incredible technology we have at our disposal, and you can create a truly amazing transformation. I keep hearing that millenials and younger people are most interested in pursuing careers where they can contribute to and improve society. They have an innate calling to look at the problems of the world and come up with creative solutions. As educators we can help students develop the skills they will need to do that. I think Trung Le provides a good model to help get there. Check out his short talk below:
